Removing nitrates naturally.
The Nitrate Problem
Nitrate contamination has become one of the most common water quality issues worldwide. Major sources include:
- Agricultural fertilizers
- Animal and human waste
- Sewage discharge
- Industrial runoff
- Natural nitrification processes in soil and water
High nitrate concentrations in drinking water can pose serious health risks, particularly for infants. Many countries therefore regulate nitrate levels in drinking water, typically limiting them to 10 mg/L nitrate-nitrogen.
Effective nitrate removal technologies are therefore essential to protect public health and ensure safe water supplies.
Nitrotrapp Filter Media Technology
Nitrotrapp® is the world’s first high-capacity adsorption and desorption system specifically designed to capture nitrates, offering up to five times the capacity of traditional solutions on the market.
Unlike conventional systems, the NT Filter does not remove beneficial ions such as bicarbonates and is highly selective for nitrate removal.
The process occurs in a pressure vessel packed-bed filter, where water flows through the media and nitrate ions are captured within the adsorbent structure.
Regeneration
Once the media becomes saturated, the filter is regenerated using a mild regeneration solution flowing in the opposite direction. This releases the trapped nitrates from the media.
Regeneration salts are:
- Potassium Chloride
- Magnesium Chloride
- Magnesium Bicarbonate
- Potassium Hydroxide
- Magnesium Hydroxide
The regeneration process produces a concentrated nitrate solution that can be used as agricultural fertilizer.

Nitratproblemet
Nitratforurening er blevet et af de mest almindelige vandkvalitetsproblemer på verdensplan. De vigtigste kilder omfatter:

Høje nitratkoncentrationer i drikkevand kan udgøre alvorlige sundhedsrisici, især for spædbørn. Mange lande regulerer derfor nitratniveauer i drikkevand og begrænser dem typisk til 10 mg/L nitrat-nitrogen.
Effektive nitratfjernelsesteknologier er derfor afgørende for at beskytte folkesundheden og sikre sikre vandforsyninger.
Nitrotrapp Filtermedieteknologi
Nitrotrapp® er verdens første adsorptions- og desorptionssystem med høj kapacitet, der er specielt designet til at opfange nitrater og tilbyder op til fem gange kapaciteten i forhold til traditionelle løsninger på markedet.
I modsætning til konventionelle systemer fjerner NT-filteret ikke gavnlige ioner såsom bikarbonater og er meget selektivt til nitratfjernelse.
Processen foregår i et trykbeholder-pakket filter, hvor vand strømmer gennem mediet, og nitrationer indfanges i den adsorberende struktur.
Regenerering
Når mediet er mættet, regenereres filteret ved hjælp af en mild regenereringsopløsning, der strømmer i den modsatte retning. Dette frigiver de indfangede nitrater fra mediet.

- Kaliumklorid
- Magnesiumklorid
- Magnesiumbicarbonat
- Kaliumhydroxid
- Magnesiumhydroxid
Regenereringsprocessen producerer en koncentreret nitratopløsning, der kan bruges som landbrugsgødning.
